Heygates Animal Feeds
Quality feeds from HeygatesHeygates’ animal feeds are based on a blend of traditional raw materials and modern technology, resulting in the best possible quality and value for money.
The animal feed mill uses cereals and fresh wheatfeed products from the flour mills, together with quality protein sources such as rape meal and and soya bean meal. Almost half the raw materials used in the animal feed mill come from the flour mills on the same site, reducing the need for road transport and minimising the carbon footprint of the products.

There is a choice of chick and grower rations with or without a coccidiostat. Feeds with a coccidiostat should not be fed to laying birds and a non medicated feed should be fed for at least 5 days before slaughter.
COUNTRY LAYERS PELLETS & MEAL
16% PROTEIN, 5% FIBRE, 0.34% METHIONINE
Country Layers pellets and meal provide a complete feed for free range laying birds. Traditional quality ingredients are used to make a 3mm pellet or a coarsely ground meal. Calcium is added to provide strong shells, together with all the necessary minerals and vitamins for a healthy bird.
To give an attractive yolk colour, pigments extracted from marigold petals are added together with another compound which occurs naturally in the skins of oranges.
Country Layers should be fed ad lib to laying birds. A typical bird will eat between 130 and 140 grammes per day.
If mixed corn or wheat is to be fed then it should be in small quantities in the afternoon. Too much will reduce the bird’s appetite for the layers pellets and they may not get enough protein, minerals and vitamins.
A constant supply of fresh water and grit should be provided.
SPECIALIST LAYERS PELLETS & MEAL
17% PROTEIN, 5% FIBRE, 0.38% METHIONINE
A 17% protein high energy layers ration with even higher levels of essential amino acids than the Country Layers. Designed for more intensive units, Specialist Layers will give an extra boost to egg production. The yolk colouring pigments are the same as the Country Layers.

WATER
Rabbits should have constant access to clean fresh water.
RABBIT PELLETS OR MIX
feed 25g of Pellets or Mix for every kg of your rabbit’s body weight. So, for a medium sized rabbit weighing 2kg feed 50g per day. If introducing a new feed do so gradually to avoid digestive upsets.
FORAGES
Rabbits need plenty of fibre to keep their digestive systems healthy so good quality fresh hay should be available ad lib. Ideally rabbits should also have access to grass for grazing. DO NOT FEED GRASS CUTTINGS.
FRESH GREENS
Feed a variety of fresh greens daily, approximately one adult handful depending on the size of the rabbit. Introduce new greens gradually to avoid digestive upset.
COUNTRY HERB GOAT MIX
16% PROTEIN, 7.5% FIBRE
Country Herb Goat Mix is a premium lightly molassed coarse mixture suitable for most adult goats.

Country Herb Goat Mix is fully mineralised and no other supplement should be necessary in most cases. Vitamin E and Selenium are added to promote general health and coat and hoof condition.
Always introduce Country Herb Goat Mix gradually, starting with about 0.25kg per day and gradually increasing the amount each day. A maintenance ration for an adult goat is usually between 0.5kg and 1kg per day when fed with hay. The actual amount will depend on the size of the animal and the quality of the forage available. It is best to split the ration into at least two feeds per day.
A milking goat should be fed from about three weeks before kidding building up to at least 0.5kg at kidding. To support 5 litres of milk production she will need 2kg of feed per day.
LLAMA & ALPACA MIX
16% PROTEIN , 9% FIBRE
Heygates Lllama Mix is a premium molassed coarse mixture suitable for llamas and alpacas. The ingredients include steam cooked flaked barley and flaked maize. A variety of protein sources are used including cooked flaked peas, lucerne, sunflower and soya.
Heygates Llama Mix is fully mineralised and no other supplement should be necessary in most cases. Llamas have a high requirement for viamin E which is included in the ration.
It is important that the llama eats sufficient fibrous forage. Obesity is a common problem so concentrated feed should be fed with care. Good grazing or hay will provide most of the maintenance requirements of a mature adult.
Introduce Llama Mix to females during the last 3 months of pregnancy. Start with a small amount and build up to a maximum of 1kg per day (less for alpacas) split between at least two feeds. Continue through the first 3 months of lactation gradually reducing the amount up to weaning. Growing animals can be fed up to 1kg per day in at least 2 feeds. It is important to continuously monitor body condition and feed concentrates accordingly. Forage and water should always be available.
